Course Description:
This course is intended for practitioners who want to learn about tongue ties, and how it affects the functions of the tongue – speaking and eating at different stages of life. A brief over-view of the functions of the tongue along with discussion of the Hazelbaker Assessment tool/ Martinelli tool for tongue tie assessment in infants, as well as the Marchesan Assessment for children will be discussed as it pertains to daily clinical practice.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the course, the participants will be able to:
-Understand the role of the tongue for optimal breastfeeding, speaking and eating in infants and toddlers.
-Be able to use a visual scientific assessment tool to aid in decision making for tongue tie for referral to a specialist.
-Be able to discuss with parents questions regarding tongue tie, and timing for referral for speech and feeding.
